Yesterday was Christian Grey's birthday, but today Fifty Shades fans around the world are celebrating another special occasion – we finally have a director! E L James made the announcement on Twitter earlier today.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features have chosen British director Sam Taylor-Johnson to helm the film adaptation of James' bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey. Even though many observers felt a female director would be ideal (yes, Sam is a woman!) the choice of 46-year old Taylor-Johnson is still surprising, given the high profile of the project and her limited number of credits. She only has one feature film directing credit to her name – 2009's Nowhere Boy, a chronicle of John Lennon's early years. The film garnered the rookie director a pair of BAFTA nominations and was well received by critics. Formerly Sam Taylor-Wood, the director married the star of the film, 23-year-old British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

It's a good day for Henry Cavill fans. We know the hunky actor, who's about to knock our socks off as Superman in a few weeks, is a top contender for the lead role in the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaption. He's one of our longtime favourites here at Oh Fifty and it turns out that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is also a fan of the idea and has given his approval.

Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson is talking about Fifty Shades of Grey again. The actress – who once said that she wanted the role of Anastasia Steele – seems to have had a change of heart and is back tracking on the comments she made this time last year. 

Benson recently had a chat with Wetpaint about season four of her popular ABC Family series, and seems to have had a lapse in memory. 

This is it Henry Cavill fans! We are just weeks away from seeing our beloved Henry take on the iconic role of Superman on June 14. The latest Man of Steel trailer features villain General Zod – played with just the right amount of menacing evil by Michael Shannon – on his mission to destroy both Superman and his world. This action packed trailer is a departure from the previous instalments that focused mainly on Superman, but not to worry, there is still plenty of Henry to enjoy!

Last week, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both revealed that a deal was imminent to secure Anna Karenina director Joe Wright for the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation. According to the industry trades, several sources said that while no official deal was is in place, Wright was the studio's first choice to helm the film, but not it appears that those reports were premature.

Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline, rebuffed the latest scoop stating Wright is no longer in the running to to take the reigns of Fifty Shades of Grey:
